Why is my new washer not draining?

Why is my new washer not draining?

There are a few possibilities why your washing machine won’t drain. Your washer may have a clogged drain hose or the pump may be broken. A broken lid switch or belt could also be the culprit. It may even be something as simple as the hose being jammed.

What to do if your washing machine won’t drain?

You can take the drain hose off and run water through it in your sink to be sure it is not blocked. If there is water STILL in the washer when you remove the drain hose, grab a bucket as the water will exit from where you disconnected it.

Where does the water go in a washing machine?

Plumbing System Problems. The washing machine drain hose goes down about two feet into the plumbing drain standpipe. (In some machines, the drain hose may simply be clamped onto the side of a wash tub, though this is not an acceptable practice anymore.) From there, the water then goes into a drain trap.

Why is there no water coming out of my washer?

This can sometimes happen after you wash items like rugs, which may shed a lot of fabric fibers, or if the drain hose is pinched. If the tube is clogged, it can prevent the water from being pumped out of the machine. To test this, remove the drain tube attached to the washer and make sure it is clear.

What to do when your water pump does not drain?

After you reset the unit and the water has pumped out, go in with a screwdriver and remove all the covers and screens. Clean everything. If you have sensors or floats, clean them out too. Be sure to remove all covers as fine particles can make it through some of the micron filters and clog pumps. Was this answer helpful?

If you find anything, remove it to see if you can get the washing machine to drain. Be aware that if you remove the hose to get an obstruction out of the pump, any water in the washer will come pouring out. To avoid a mess, scoop out as much water from the drum as possible before disconnecting the hose.

Drain Hose Problems. If you hear the washing machine’s pump operating but no water is leaving the machine, it is likely that the rubber drain hose running from the back of the machine to the drain standpipe or washtub is clogged with cloth fibers.

If that doesn’t solve the problem, other causes for poor draining include clogged drain hoses or pipes, defective electronic or mechanical parts on the washing machine and improper venting of the waste line. Most washing machine problems are easy to address, but if you have poor venting, you may need to consult a plumber.
