If you do not have a touches sensor installed in the toilet then most likely the issue is a leaky flapper. When the flapper leaks water from the tank will enter the bowl and can cause the toilet to flush. I recommend turning off the water supply to the toilet and remove the old flapper and take it to the hardware store with you.
