Be aware of the amount of salt you are using. The draining hose may not be able to flush the brine during regeneration cycles. This could happen because of clogging. If so, then remove the unclog the hose to flush out the brine from water during regeneration cycles. Otherwise, lessen the amount of salt used in the tank.

When to add salt to a water softener?

When they notice that the salt level is below 1/3, tell them to add a bag of salt to it or at least tell you that the salt in the brine tank is low. I also suggest keeping a few bags of water softener salt in a room far from the water softener.

If your water softener is in bypass mode, it should not be needing any salt at all! But if you don’t plan on bypassing your water softener because you won’t be away for an extended period of time, fill your salt tank to about 3/4 full which should last for quite a while.
