What to do if boiler pressure keeps rising?
What to do if boiler pressure keeps rising?
If your boiler pressure keeps rising into the red, it’s best to arrange a boiler repair. It could indicate a problem with the pressure relief valve – or a fault within the system. A Gas Safe Engineer will be able to diagnose the problem and fix it, so you’re not left without heating or hot water.
What if boiler pressure is too high?
Boiler pressure is controlled by the expansion vessel, the balance of air versus water in your central heating system. resulting in the water coming out of your pressure relief valve. Too much air could result in an over pressurised system, this could also result in water coming out from the pressure relief valve.
How do you fix a pressure drop on a boiler?
Top tip!
- Switch off and allow your boiler to cool.
- Double-check that both ends of the filling loop are securely attached.
- Open both valves, to allow cold mains water into the system (you should hear it)
- Wait for the pressure gauge to read 1.5 bar.
- Close both valves, one after the other.
Why does pressure on boiler keep going up?
All closed systems (i.e. a combi boiler) have an expansion vessel to allow for excess water levels. Unfortunately, these pipes can become clogged by dirt and debris, which results in a pressure build up within the system. To check this, turn off your heating system and look to see if there is a build up in the pipe.
What happens if the pressure on my boiler is too low?
It’s important for your boiler to maintain a steady pressure, too high or too low a pressure level, and the boiler will switch off. It requires pressure to force water around your central heating system, without the correct pressure, it cannot adequately heat your home. What should my boiler pressure be?
What causes a combi boiler to lose pressure?
However, the most common cause for a combi boiler losing pressure is a leak. This can be due to a number of reasons including a leak caused by a faulty part in your boiler, a leak in your system from the pipes, a broken seal within the boiler, a faulty expansion vessel or a cracked heat exchanger.
What to do if your boiler won’t repressurise?
On some boilers it’s a barsteward to get to, so an engineer will fit a replacement externally and divert the pipework. our boiler expansion diaphragm failed too. Meant water pressure rose dramatically when heating up and venting outside. Should still see pressure increase on top up though There are usually 2 taps to open to pressurise the system.
How can I release pressure from my Worcester Boiler?
Worcester boilers installed from as little as £1,795. If you’ve had work done to your central heating system, it may have collected some air in the radiators and towel rails. You can release this pressure by using a bleed key. To bleed radiators and towel rails, simply open the vent with the key slightly. You’ll start to here air hissing out.
What’s the water pressure on a Burnham gas boiler?
The water pressure was initially around 5 psi – not sure if the previous owner drained the system in the summer. I filled the water pressure to about 12/13 psi when the boiler was cold.
When is the boiler pressure too high or too low?
The pressure may be lower if it is warm out, or higher if it is cold out. If it nears 3 bar or 45 psi though, your pressure is too high. Pressure gauges are often color-coded. If the needle is in the green, your pressure is usually fine.

How can I re pressurise my gas boiler?
Boiler pressure systems differ, so it’s always best to check your manual, to see if you can re-pressurise it yourself. Your boiler may also have instructions on the rear of the control panel. (If you need any tools to remove this panel, don’t touch it! Get in touch and we’ll have a Gas Safe engineer do this for you). Top tip!
