What is the difference between Moen 1200 and 1225 cartridge?
The biggest difference that you’ll find with Moen shower valves is the Moen 1222 vs 1225 replacement cartridges. The 1225 is the updated version of the original 1200 single handle cartridge with a brass shell and brass piston. The Moen 1225 has a clear plastic shell with a brass piston inside of it.
Do I need Moen 1200 or 1225?
Moen 1200 has an all-round brass design which ensures longevity in the long run. But in terms of performance, Moen 1225 can offer you better performance with its 1GPM water discharge rate. While Moen 1200 does not support Posi-Temp shower valves, Moen 1225 is compatible with almost any faucet.

Discard the old cartridge and insert the new cartridge into the valve assembly. Make certain that the notches line up as indicated. Reattach the nuts to the valve assemblies and tighten them with pliers. Replace the handles and secure them with the screws.
