What happens if the toilet is clogged?

Most clogged toilets are what are known as “slow drainers.” That is, flush water partially fills the bowl but doesn’t rush out and clean away the waste. The water level remains high, then usually drains down to normal height within a minute or two. You might not even know the toilet is clogged until you flush it.

Why does my toilet not flush when there is not enough water?

When the toilet tank does not have enough water, the little water will not have the force required to flush the toilet. The water level in the toilet tank is controlled by the fill valve and the toilet float.

What causes water to leak out of the toilet tank?

Even if the chain is properly set, the flapper still might be the cause of a flushing problem. Over time, flappers wear out, and a bent or warped flapper will cause water to leak through the flush tube hole. This will let water seep out of the tank so the tank won’t hold enough water for an effective flush.

Where does the water go after you flush the toilet?

The fill tube is the narrow, flexible tube that runs from the fill valve to the overflow tube inside the toilet tank. After you flush the toilet, as the tank refills, this tube shoots water down the overflow tube to refill the toilet bowl after the flush.

Why is the handle on my toilet not working?

Inside the cistern, it’s connected to a trip lever and link that operates the flushing mechanism when you press the flush handle down. A faulty or broken flush handle is probably the easiest problem to diagnose. The handle becomes either too loose or too tight, which stops it connecting with the link and flushing mechanism.

What should I do if my toilet flush is slow?

An unstable flapper can also render the need to manually push down the lever until enough water has drained into the bowl. Make sure that the chain is just the right length for the flapper to function properly. There should be at least ¼ to ½ an inch of slack in the chain. Open up the water tank before trying to flush.
