Is it normal for a new water pump to leak?

Every mechanically driven water pump has a weep hole that might leak a little in the beginning. However, if you still see seepage a few days after you’ve replaced the pump, or if you notice more pronounced seepage or even drips from the weep hole, you do have a problem: these symptoms point to a faulty installation.

Do you need to replace thermostat when replacing water pump?

Most of the time, RRT will recommend replacing the thermostat at the same time as the water pump. In almost every case, the thermostat is located adjacent to the water pump and needs to be removed to access it. This saves you labor as you usually only would need to purchase the part during this job.

Why is the oil milky when the pump is shut down?

This causes oil velocity to decrease, reducing turbulence inside the reservoir. Water leaking into the system will cause the oil to have a milky appearance while the system is running, but the oil will usually clear up a short time after the system is shut down as water settles to the bottom of the reservoir.
