Yes, the trim has to match the valve. However, anything not associated with the valve (shower head and arm, outlet for handheld shower, sliding bar for handheld shower, handheld shower head and hose, towels hooks, towel bars, etc.)
How do I know which Moen valve?
If not the series number can be usually be found on the underside of the faucet or on the decorative escutcheon ring that goes around it. The second way to identify your Moen valve cartridge is to remove the old one.
What’s the difference between Moen trim and standard trim?
The visual difference between the Original Moentrol Valve and the Standard Valve is the balancing spool (see red arrow) on the top of the Original Moentrol Valve. The Standard Valve does not have one. Although Moen no longer manufactures new trim kits to fit this valve, individual parts and trim pieces are available at 1-800-BUY-MOEN.
Do you need to install Moen’s shower valve adapter kit?
Just make sure you shut off your water supply if you do this optional step! While these valves are essentially the same, except the Moentrol has pressure balancing, the screw positions on the escutcheon plate are not. What does that mean? You need to first install Moen’s shower valve adapter kit!
Can you use Moen Posi temp trim kit?
Without this kit you will NOT be able to fasten the shower plate to the valve. And I’m sorry for the let down, but this adapter kit CANNOT be used to convert a Moen Posi Temp trim kit to Moentrol trim kit. In addition to the adapter kit, I’m using the Moen Kingsley Trim Kit which is specifically designed for the Moentrol Valve.
