Can a double wye be installed horizontally?

Can a double wye be installed horizontally?

The double fixture fitting can’t be used on the horizontal. On the vertical, the new toilets tend to skip across that fitting, so while it had been a good fitting for the old toilets that took forever to clear a bowl, the new toilets with 3″ flush valves don’t work well.

What purpose does a double wye fitting serve?

A double wye creates a double S trap. A double fixture fitting is made so that air in the trap arm meets the stack before the drain drops down so that a siphon cannot be created. If the trap siphons it breaks the trap seal and there is nothing between your nose and whatever gas is in the sewer.
